Teaching Tricks to Soothe the Savage Beast
Saturday, Oct 1, 1:30 – 3:30pm
Speaker: Erica Pytlovany, KPA CTP
We often put animal training into two categories: serious training (like down, stay and heel) and fun training (like agility and tricks). To our dogs, these are all the same thing! Learn how you can use ‘silly’ tricks to help with aggressive behavior, anxiety, or other behavior challenges.
Advocating for Your Dog with Family, Neighbors, Veterinarians, and Even Strangers
Saturday, Nov 5, 1:30 – 3:30pm
Speaker: Laura Sharkey, KPA CTP
If you have a sensitive dog (shy, fearful, reactive) or one with a specific training plan, you know how difficult it can be to communicate your dog's needs to other people in a way that they will respect. A stranger, saying that all dogs LOVE her, insists on approaching your shy dog. When your dog barks for attention, your spouse caves in and gives him treats, just to keep him quiet. Your neighbor lets her dog run to your because her off-leash dog is "friendly". Your vet rushes through your appointment without explaining your dog's medical condition. Or a friend insists that using a prong collar would solve all your problems. In this workshop, we will go over many different situations and provide you with ideas to help you be your dog's best advocate.
All workshops are free of charge but advance registration is required. Your Dog's Friend is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose goal is to help keep dogs out of shelters by educating and supporting their humans. Register online at: http://yourdogsfriend.org/workshop-registration/
